David Musuľbes

Dawid Vladimirovich Mussulbes (Russian Давид Владимирович Мусульбес, Slovak David Musuľbes; born May 28, 1972 in Ordzhonikidze, Nordossetische ASSR, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union ) is a former Russian wrestler of Ossetian origin, starts for Slovakia since 2007.

Career

Dawid Mussulbes grew up in Ordzhonikidze (now Vladikavkaz ) and began with the rings. Already in the youth and junior age he was one of the best wrestlers in free style in his age group in the Soviet Union. His coach in Ordzhonikidze was Kazbek Dedikajew which formed many Ossetian world-class athletes. Later he moved to CSKA Moscow, the central sports club of the army, which he hedged its economic existence to devote himself fully to the rings. After taking in the Russian national team of freestyle wrestler after 1992 he was trained by Savely Byasrow.

His debut on the international stage wrestler he gave in 1994 at the European Championships in Rome in the heavyweight class. With an eighth place he could not meet the expectations of the Russian coach, because it was higher after the usual successes of other Russian wrestler. In Rome, he was defeated by the German masters Heiko courtship in the 1st round even on shoulders. Nevertheless, the Russian team leadership held also in the upcoming competitions at Mussulbes. At the World Championships the same year in Istanbul he finished 3rd in the heavyweight division. In the semifinals, he lost it against the Germans Arawat Sabejew, who became world champion, just on points.

At the European Championships in 1995 in Fribourg / Switzerland him his first title win succeeded. In the final he defeated while Milan Mazac from Slovakia, who had pushed by a favorable group up in the final, superior on points. In his group Dawid Mussulbes had in his first fight Arawat Sabejew surprised after a few seconds with a fast action and the points lead defended to the end of the fight. The revenge for this Niederlagea Sabejew succeeded in the same year at the World Championships in Atlanta, when he came to a 4-0 points victory over Mussulbes, the early stage had thus eliminated from the tournament.

1996 won Dawid Mussulbes at the European Championships in Budapest 3rd place again a medal. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in the heavyweight Leri Chabelow was used, but did not win any medal. In 1997 David joined the super heavyweight class. By winning the title at the European Championships in Warsaw, he also convinced in this weight class. In the final he beat while Alexei Medvedev from Belarus sure on points. In the years 1998 and 1999 Dawid Mussulbes stagnated. He focused in these years more on his engineering degree. After all, he won 3rd place at the European Championship 1998 in Bratislava. In 1999, he decided against any international assignments.

In 2000, he returned with a 2nd place back at the European Championships. In the final, the Pole Marek Garmulewicz proved to be the stronger. In the summer Dawid Mussulbes sealed the biggest win of his career. With four victories over superior Sven Thiele, Germany, Peter Pecha, Slovakia, Abbas Jadidi from Iran and Artur Taymazov from Uzbekistan, he became Olympic champion. Only Taymazov could he present at the 2:5 defeat two points decrease.

The Olympic victory followed in the years 2001 to 2003, five victories at international championships in a row. He became European Champion in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and world champion in 2001 and 2002. A unique winning streak. In all of these championships, he remained undefeated. All the more surprising, therefore, was his decision to withdraw before the Olympic year 2004.

Dawid Mussulbes is a mining engineer, but has worked as an assistant coach of the Russian freestyle team.

After five years of silence on the wrestling mat Dawid Mussulbes launched a comeback in the fall of 2007. But he did not start more for Russia but for Slovakia. For this country, he was already in April 2008 at the European Championships in Tampere in free style at the start. He won his first four fights there, but lost the final to the first twenty years old Dawit Modsmanaschwili from Georgia on points and thus came on the 2nd place. After the European Championships, it was found that Dawit Modsmanaschwili was doped. Therefore to him, the title has been withdrawn. Dawid Mussulbes was declared the 2008 European Champion. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, he took up for Slovakia and won the bronze medal.

Dawid Mussulbes signed a contract with German Bundesliga club KSV Aalen 05, for which he is eligible to start since February 24, 2008.
