Derog Gioura

Derog Yioura (* 1931 in Ubenide; ? † 25 September 2008) is a nauruischer politician and former President of the Republic of Nauru. When his predecessor Bernard Dowiyogo died on 10 March 2003, he was elected by the Nauruan Parliament for interim President. Shortly thereafter, in the parliamentary elections on May 3, he was just re-elected to Parliament, and ran for President, along with Ludwig Scotty and Kinza Clodumar.

On the following May 29 Yioura suffered a heart attack, after which he retired as a candidate. He was taken to Melbourne to a hospital where he was treated. On the same day the parliament elected the new President Ludwig Scotty. Recovered from his illness, he returned to Nauru and supported René Harris in his successful attempt to overthrow Scotty by a vote of no confidence. Yioura has since nauruischer Minister for Women and Family. Since Harris was ousted after a new vote of no confidence on 22 June 2004, Yioura was deposed as minister, but remained as a parliamentarian. However, due to the dissolution of Parliament in October 2004, he lost this mandate. Even with the short subsequent elections he did not make the re-election.
