Diegten (Basel German: Diekte ) is a municipality in the district of Waldenburg in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.
History
1152 Diegten was first mentioned: as Dietingoven. The name changed over time to Dietinghofen to Dietikon, Dietken and finally Diegten. Archaeological finds have shown that the area was already inhabited in Roman times. From 1487 Diegten was completely under the domination of the city of Basel.
Coat of arms
Since 1930 Diegten has an official coat of arms. It is divided by a vertical line into two halves. On the left, a black lion is depicted standing on a golden background, on the right are alternating black and white diagonal stripes. It involves the arms of the canton of Thurgau knightly family of Eschenz.
Attractions
In the 1275 first mentioned and since 1529 the Reformed Church of St. Peter, there are stained glass windows of the famous scenic basel artist Walter Eglin.
