Dienten [ tɛɐntn̩ ] is a municipality with 750 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the state of Salzburg in Zell am See district in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Pinzgau in Salzburg at the foot of the High King ( 2.943m ). By the end of 2002, the village belonged to the district court Taxenbach, since 2003 she has been part of the judicial district of Saalfelden.

Katastralgemeinden are: Tendered ( 18.49 km ²), Used Bach ( 22.42 km ²) and Schwarzenbach ( 8.82 km ²). The only town is Dienten. Place parts mountain, mountain soil, Bruendl, village, lip Anger, Schatt Mountain, Sun Mountain and Schwarzenbach.

History

Served was first mentioned in 963. In the area of Tendered there was from the middle ages a iron mine that was abandoned in 1864. The name of the place Tendered derives from the Celtic word " Tuenta ", which in turn originates from the former name of the border river between Pongau and Pinzgau, the " Rivulus torrens Tuontina ".

The parish church in Tendered was first mentioned in documents in 1410. In Gothic style, it was built under the name of " Church on the Bühel " tuff. Since June 12, 1505 its name was changed to " Church of Saint Nicholas ", after he had consecrated the house.
