Lofer is a municipality with 1111 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the province of Salzburg in Zell am See district in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in Lofer in the country Pinzgauer Saalachtal in Salzburg. By the end of May 1923, the village belonged to the district court Lofer, since June 1, 1923 she is part of the judicial district of Saalfelden.

Neighboring municipalities are: Lofer, Weissbach, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Hochfilzen ( Tyrol) and Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden ( Bavaria )

History

The original Bavarian Lofer land belonged to the Archbishopric of Salzburg from 1228 and came in 1816 to Austria. 1850 he produced the parish of St. Martin. 1939 Lofer and St. Martin were merged to form the large village Lofer. In 1946, she was again divided into three separate municipalities: Lofer, St. Martin bei Lofer and Weissbach bei Lofer.
