Geography

Location

Ebersburg is on 300-689 meters above sea level in the Rhön between Fulda and Gersfeld.

Neighboring communities

Ebersburg borders in the north on the community Kunzell, in the east on the community Poppenhausen and the city Gersfeld (all three in Fulda district ) in the south to the market game patches and the community moths (both in the district of Bad Kissingen in Bavaria), and in the west on the communities of Kalbach and oak cell (both in the district of Fulda).

Districts

Ebersberg

Ebersberg is a scattered settlement and the geographically largest district of the municipality Ebersburg. It consists of several hamlets and isolated farms mainly from the north of the Lütter. At its eastern end of Ebersberg is the Ebersburg, which is surrounded on three sides by the district Gackenhof (municipality Poppenhausen / Wasserkuppe).

Reed

In Ried is a historically significant fortified church, one of the best preserved fortifications throughout the county. The church dates from the 15th century, in the old chancel there is a ribbed vault. The old church tower is preserved, as is the late medieval churchyard wall mounting with.

Schmalnau

Schmalnau is a great Rhöndorf along the Fulda River with a Baroque church which has a valuable baroque altarpiece by Johann Andreas Herrlein and a late Gothic baptismal font. Above the cemetery at the foot of Horst mountain is a replica of the Lourdes Grotto in the year 1993.

Thalau

The district Thalau had voluntarily formed from the formerly independent communities Altenhof, Stellberg and Thalau in 1969. He is nationally recognized resort and is situated 360-520 meters above sea level. Here IVV walking weeks are performed regularly. Thalau offers ten circular walks ( IVV - recognition ) with different length 7-20 km.

Weyhers

Weyhers is a village in the front Rhön and is 362 meters high at the foot of Ebersburg. When it ( dissolved 1932), the Kingdom of Bavaria and later belonged to the district of Gersfeld, it had as a court location with private prison for the environment and more important. see also Postal Weyhers

History

The community Ebersburg was formed on 31 December 1971 at the regional reform in Hesse from the former municipalities Ebersberg, Ried, Schmalnau, Thalau ( Altenhof, Mrs. Wood, Stellberg and Thalau ) and Weyhers. On August 1, 1972, be added the hall 1 of Gichenbach ( Untergichenbach ). The municipal administration has its headquarters in the district Schmalnau. The new church was named after the Ebersburg whose ruins perched at 689 meters altitude on the Ebersberg.

Spin-offs

On August 1, 1972 Ebersburg entered the Alt Ebersberg hamlets and farms Leimbachshof, Leimbach mill, Chicken Rain, Hettenpaulshof, Unterdanialshof, Oberdanielshof, weighing Rich and Bienhof from the neighboring community Poppenhausen.

Economy and infrastructure

In the district Weyhers is the head office of the beverage company Rhön- bubble. Ebersburg lies on the railway line Fulda Gersfeld that stops Ried and Schmalnau lie in the same districts. By districts Ried and Schmalau lead bike trails:

  • The Hessian Radfernweg R1 ( Fulda Cycle Route ) performs more than 250 km from the heights of the Rhön along the Fulda to Bad Karl port on the river Weser.
  • The regional theme route summit tour connects the water dome in the Rhön with the Hoherodskopf in the Vogelsberg.
  • The Hessian cycle track R2 ( The Four Rivers Cruise ) starts in Biedenkopf and leads over 202 km through the river valleys of the Lahn, Lauter, Lueder and Fulda to Sinntal in the Spessart.
  • The D- Route 9 (Weser - Romantic Road ) leads from the North Sea via Bremen, Kassel, Fulda and the Tauber Valley to Füssen in the Allgäu ( 1197 km ).
