Échenans

Échenans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Échenans is located at 350 m, about 8 km west of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the eastern part of the plateau, which is nestled in the rolling landscape between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the northwest, near the Ruisseau du Rupt.

The area of ​​1.70 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the gently undulating countryside north of Doubstals. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Arcey, the average is 360 m and is slightly inclined towards the east. It has a width of four miles and a length of about five kilometers and is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The Rupt drains the area east to the Doubs. It is east of the village for the purpose of fish farming dammed to form an elongated pond. To the north- east, the municipality area extends to the wooded slopes of Raynans, on the 387- m, the highest elevation of Échenans is achieved.

Neighboring communities of Échenans are Semondans in the north, Raynans in the east, Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard in the south and Désandans in the West.

History

Since the Middle Ages Échenans belonged to the County of Montbéliard. With the occupation of that county, the village came in 1793 final in French hands. Today Échenans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée du Rupt.

Population

With 133 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Échenans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 35 and 60 people, a striking population growth was recorded between 1975 and 1990. Since then, the population remained at an approximately constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

Échenans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and the fish embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Montbéliard.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that runs from Sainte- Marie to Semondans. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 14 km. Further road links exist with Désandans, Raynans and Saint- Julien- lès -Montbéliard.
