Le Vernoy

Le Vernoy is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Le Vernoy is located on 395 m, 11 km west-northwest of the city of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the extreme north of the department on a plateau in the headwaters of Rupt, in the undulating countryside between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the northwest, at the northern foot of the ridge Bois d' Arcey.

The area of ​​3.30 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside north of Doubstals. The main part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Le Vernoy, which is on average 390 m. It represents the headwaters of the Rupt, which provides for drainage to the southeast by a narrow valley to the plateau of Arcey. The plateau is composed partly of arable and meadow land in the northern section of the forest ( Bois de l' Abbaye ). Flanked the plateau in the south of the foothills of the Bois d' Arcey ( 480 m), to the east of the height of the Grand Bois, at the 500 m, the highest peak of Le Vernoy is achieved. With a narrow tip, the municipality's area extends to the northwest into the basin of Chavanne.

Neighboring communities of Le Vernoy are Champey in the north, Trémoins in the east, and Aibre Désandans in the south and Chavanne and Saulnot in the West.

History

The Priory Vaux- les- Vernois was occupied in 1552 by the Counts of Montbéliard. Since the Middle Ages Le Vernoy belonged to the County of Montbéliard. With the occupation of that county, the village came in 1793 final in French hands. Today Le Vernoy is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes de la Vallée du Rupt.

Attractions

The oldest surviving building in the village is the home of Duvernoy family, which was built in the 17th century.

Population

With 168 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Le Vernoy is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 60 and 90 people, a striking population growth was recorded 1975-1982. Since then, however, a decline of almost 15 % was observed again.

Economy and infrastructure

Le Vernoy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road, leading from Aibre after Saulnot. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 16 km.
