History

The district Birk was first documented in 1357 as " Pirk ". The Lords of Künsberg were since the beginning of the 13th century until 1487 in the possession of the manor Emtmannsberg. In 1660 the margrave's court chancellor Carl von Stein acquired the manor in Emtmannsberg. In 1663 he was invested with the high court. When the family of Stone in 1739 became extinct, the estate fell to the Margraviate of Bayreuth. As part of the Prussian Principality of Bayreuth since 1792 Emtmannsberg fell in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 to France and came to Bavaria in 1810. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Incorporations

On 1 May 1978, the formerly independent communities Birk and sculpting village and parts of the disbanded community Wolfbach were incorporated.

Mayor Thomas Kreil ( CSU / Independent Citizens' List ). He was succeeded Hermann Benker ( CSU / Independent Citizens' List ) in 2002.
