Engelthal

Angel Thal is a municipality with 1126 inhabitants in the Middle Franconian Nuremberg County and is part of the administrative community Henfenfeld. The place is located in the heart of the Franconian Alb.

Community structure

The municipality is divided into six districts:

  • Engelthal
  • Krönhof
  • Kruppach
  • Peuerling
  • Prosberg
  • Sendelbach

On 1 July 1972, the hitherto separate municipality Sendelbach was incorporated. Neighboring municipalities are ( starting in the north clockwise): Henfenfeld, Hersbruck, Happurg, open living, Leinburg, Ottensoos. Nuremberg is located 34 km away by car.

History

1243 the village Swinach became the seat of the Dominican convent Engelthal. From 1289 to 1356 lived in the monastery Engelthal Christine Ebner and its numerous visions and revelations and her sisters literary processed ( life and revelations from 1317 and Engelthaler sister book, before 1346 ). Due to their life and work she was one of the most remarkable women of the first half of the 14th century. Angel valley is known for this monastery, which was a center of mystical spirituality and an almost unique production of German mystical literature in the 14th century. In the following years, the monastery expanded only slightly in the local area and arrived in 1504 in the possession of the imperial city of Nuremberg. During the Reformation, the monastery was closed in 1565, and angel valley again became a less important place in the Nuremberg hinterland.

Local Politics

The local council of angels valley is composed of twelve councilors and the First Mayor:

Culture and sights

  • Parish Church of St. John the Baptist built in 1270 in Baroque style from 1747 to 1751
  • Chapel ruins of St. Willibald: built in the 14th century, in 1811 profaned, restored and re-opened on 7 July 2005 as a communicative meeting place for the community
  • Engelberg Abbey Thal: There are only remnants of conditioning. An association is committed to the restoration of the monastery wall.
  • On the northeast slope of the mountain, the book featured stone trough is the book mountain.
  • Since 1883 there is the volunteer fire department.
  • The fair is held annually on the last weekend in June, the weekend after St. John's, instead.
