Esbjerg fB

The Esbjerg Forenede Boldklubber (short EfB ), German United ball club Esbjerg are a football club from the Danish port of Esbjerg. The club started early result of a merger of two local clubs, as the name can still be seen. Although the most successful period of Jutlanders back is already 40 years old, they have now established itself as a member of the Danish Superliga and most recently celebrated even modest success in the European Cup.

History

Foundation

The first football club, which was founded in the city of Esbjerg was the 1898 Esbjerg Boldklub af 1898. Followed in 1911 with the club Esbjerg Amatør though a further, but none of the two clubs could ever recorded notable on regional successes. So they moved in 1924 and joined the consequence under the name Esbjerg Forenede Boldklubber together. The sporting successes came not a moment, but eventually they won in 1926 the first Jütländische Championship (this title is no longer awarded ). After Esbjerg 1931, the first division of Denmark had joined (which was at that time, associated with complex cruises to Zealand, where the superior Copenhagen clubs played ), the sporting success of Klubber reached a climax with a fifth place in the championship.

National success

After several descents and the Second World War had interrupted the success, Esbjerg could return to the top flight again in 1949 - first as relegation candidates, but after 1955, the former stadium Esbjerg Idrætspark opened the doors EfB were in the following year runner-up.

This should be a foretaste of the coming " golden era " of Esbjerg be ( in Denmark are the masters traditionally awarded gold medals, which is reflected in many metaphors ) that followed the beginning of the 60s of the great age of Aarhus GF: From 1961-1965 they dominated the Danish football and won a national title a year: four league titles and a Cup victory.

Decline and resurgence

Following this flight of the Klubber but lost again to connect to the top and went in 1972 to the third division from.

Under enormous financial effort they came back again and won in the late 1970s still a trophy and " a set of gold medals", but failed to as the successes then again, began an inexorable decline until the clubs in 1990 were virtually insolvent.

Only the sale of shares in the company " EfB A / S" in 1998 managed new financial freedom. A newly constructed, solid managed team took a fresh start, the Esbjerg in 2003 led to the UEFA Cup. In this they also played in the 2005/06 season as the winner of the draw about fair play rankings of UEFA. Today the Forenede Boldklubber are indeed more of a candidate for relegation, but even that is after the near - bankruptcy in 1990 been a success. 2011 increased from Esbjerg fB from the Superligæn to a year later ascend again. 2012/13 reached Esbjerg a place, the right to participate in the qualification for the Europa League. In the play-offs for the Europa League, they were able to prevail against AS Saint- Étienne ( 4:3 and 1:0) is surprising.
