Esboz-Brest

Esboz -Brest is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Esboz -Brest is located at an altitude of 313 m above sea level, 5 km east of Luxeuil -les- Bains and about 30 km northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northeastern part of the department, on the eastern edge of the plain of Luxeuil, the Ruisseau du Vay de Brest, west of the Plateau des Mille Étangs.

The area of ​​9.69 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the level of Luxeuil. The main part of the area occupied by the flat area, which is an average 300 m. It is drained by the Ruisseau du Vay de Brest and its headwaters west to the Lanterne. Agricultural land use predominates in this plane, but there are also large areas of forest, including the Bois de Laleau in the west and the Vay de Brest and the Corne Buisson in the south. There are numerous ponds, most of which have been dammed up (partly by monks in the 11th century ) and used for fish farming. To the east, the land rises slightly to the Plateau des Mille Étangs. The northern boundary runs partly on foot and partly on the slope of the height of the Grand Bois. With 375 m find the highest mountains of Esboz -Brest is achieved.

  • Brest ( 285 m) in the valley of the Ruisseau du Vay de Brest
  • Les Fouillies de Brest ( 300 m) in a clearing on the northern edge of the forest Vay de Brest
  • Les Rois (315 m) on the western edge of the Plateau des Mille Étangs
  • Le Haut - d'Esboz (345 m) at the southern foot of the height of the Grand Bois

Neighboring communities of Esboz - Brest are Breuchotte in the north, La Bruyère in the east, Magnivray, Citers, Ailloncourt and La Chapelle- lès- Luxeuil in the south and Saint- Sauveur and Froideconche in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Esboz and Brest belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government had held the abbots of the monastery of Luxeuil; the secular rule was for the Courbessaint family and later the Macon d' Esboz. Together with the Franche- Comté reached both towns with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Since the time of the French Revolution and Brest Esboz formed a double community. Today Esboz -Brest is a member of the comprehensive 13 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Luxeuil.

Attractions

In the cemetery there is a chapel from the 19th century. The Lavoir from the early 1900's was restored in 1954. It formerly served as well, wash and livestock watering.

Population

With 504 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Esboz -Brest is one of the smaller towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 617 persons were still counted ), a continuous population growth was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Esboz -Brest was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ), forestry and fish farming embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road that leads from Saint- Sauveur to Lantenot. Further road links exist with Froideconche, Breuchotte and La corbière.
