Escaut (department)

The Département de l' Escaut ( German Department of the Scheldt; Dutch Department van de Schelde ) was a 1795 to 1814 the French State belonging to the department. It was named after the river Scheldt. This department is not to be confused with the northerly Département des Bouches -de- l'Escaut ( Scheldt estuaries ), which also belonged from 1811 to 1814 for France.

History

The area came in 1814 to today's Belgian province of East Flanders, a part ( State - Vlaanderen, Zeeland Flanders ) came to the Dutch province of Zeeland.

Structure
