Foundation

On June 10, 1965, the teams İdman Yurdu, Akademi Gençlik and Yıldıztepe merged to Eskişehirspor. Before these teams clashed in a local championship, which was attended by more clubs from the area. Thus, the team was given the right to play in the 2nd Turkish football league.

History

Flowering time and participations in the European Cup (1965-1981)

The club managed in the first year the direct promotion to the 1st League. Since the founding of the Turkish League in 1959 so far played only eight teams from Istanbul and four clubs from Ankara and Izmir. Adana Demirspor was the only club from the Anatolian region of Turkey, but wore his games in Ankara. In 1971, the club managed to win the Turkish Cup by then- archrival Bursaspor was defeated by a 0-1 defeat in the return leg 2-0. In the 1970s, good results were achieved in the league and just missed the championship. In these years were also the only European Cup participations of the team. From the 1975/76 season it was not enough for the upper echelon.

(1981-1988)

The club graduated in 1982, 16 years after the rise, again acquaintance with the 2nd league and played here two years. With the subsequent re-emergence was a success again recorded, but you could not build on the glorious 1970s. In the 1986/87 season they were in the Turkish Cup final, hoping for a 2-1 win in the first leg against Gençlerbirliği Ankara to the second Cup victory in the club's history. But the away game ended with a 0-5 defeat.

" Demotion " and decline (1988-2005)

Eskişehirspor was in the 1988/89 season in a relegation battle and ended it on the 15th place in the table and secured just to remain in the first league. But 18 games is a tragic incident occurred. Samsunspor was the season after an accident the team bus on the way to the away game to Malatya not continue. Three players and the coach were killed and many injured players a hard time. The remaining games until the end of the season were initially evaluated with a 0:2 against Samsunspor. The Turkish Football Association Türkiye Futbol Federasyonu (TFF ) decided, however, that Samsunspor in the following year remains top notch and descends for the first team over the relegation zone. As Table Fifteenth this was Eskişehirspor. Bitter aftertaste of this decision was the descent of Samsunspor in the following season. Eskişehirspor managed only after five years absence, again in 1995 promotion to the first division, but because of failed transfer policy was followed by the direct descent. Additional financial difficulties brought the club into crisis. 1999 could prevent the crash in the 3rd league yet, but the restructuring of the Turkish league system made this transition in 2003 inevitable.

The Return (from 2005)

With President Nebi Hatipoglu the club was able to attract good players to the club, despite the third league. In the penalty shoot-out of the play- off round one rose as the third team on (2005/ 06). In the 2006/07 season the club finished in 13th place in the table of the second Turkish league. After a rapid start to the season to Eskişehirspor was suddenly in a relegation battle with four games before the season end.

In the 2007 /08 season, the club wanted with transfers such as Sergen Yalçın and Coşkun Birdal back to the top flight. By the middle of the season you always ranked on the first two places (direct ascent), but after a poor performance in the closing stages of the season the club finished second in the table, still in fourth place and was thus to participate in the play-offs (3. -6. place) entitled. On 16 May 2008 the semi-finals took place in Istanbul against the fifth- Diyarbakirspor in İnönü Stadium. Eskişehirspor managed by a 6:5 after penalties (0-0 ) reach the finals. Here you beat 18 May 2008 Boluspor (6th place; victorious in the semifinals vs. Sakaryaspor ) 2-0 and rose as the third team on in the Süper Lig.

Süper Lig (from 2008)

Eskişehirspor played in the 2008 / 09 season, thus for the first time after 12 years back in the Süper Lig The league was secured with two games left in the season and they finished in eleventh place in the table. In the 2009/10 season the club narrowly missed out on the Euro League places. The 7th place in the table should be seen as a success nonetheless.

With the goal in the top five of the Süper Lig come to the plan was the season 2010/11. Players like Rodrigo Tello, Batuhan Karadeniz, Erkan Zengin and Pele were required to achieve this goal. But after just one point from their opening six matches one was on the 17th place in the table and coach Riza Çalımbay was fired. With Bülent Uygun came a winning streak and the season was again terminated on the seventh rank.

The 2011/12 season began with a large delay due to the bribery / manipulation scandal in the Turkish Süper Lig in the previous year. Here officials, board members and players and coaches of different teams were involved. After Bülent Uygun landed on remand, the club decided to separate from him. A punishment by the TFF was not so far.

On July 17, 2011, they agreed on a three year contract with Michael Skibbe, whose first official act of the transfer of the ex- Dortmund was Dedê. The team played very successfully and finished with the completion of the first round to the third place.

The success of the German coach did not go unnoticed. He took up the offer from the Bundesliga and moved to Hertha BSC. His successor was Ersun Yanal. With him, they reached the semi-finals of the Turkish Cup and managed with the fifth in the Süper Lig participating in the playoffs for the Uefa Europa League 2012/13. These were less successful and the qualification for a European competition was missed.

After 37 years in Europe

For the 2012/13 season have been the first time in over 37 years a chance at the Europa Cup, the UEFA Europa League 2012/13 to participate. The UEFA joined the Turkish club Beşiktaş Istanbul because of the disregard of the UEFA regulations from participation in the Europa League. Bursaspor moved in its place. Eskişhehirspor first won against FC St. Johnstone before the club against Olympique Marseille was eliminated.

Coat of Arms and club colors

The template for the coat of arms made Bolel Aziz, who was represented in the first year on the board. ES is the short name of Eskisehirspor. In the media, the club is often lightheartedly with ESES. The three stars symbolize the three clubs ( İdman Yurdu, Akademi Gençlik and Yıldıztepe ) from which Eskişehirspor created in 1965. The club colors are red and black. However, there are two different versions of how this came about. A Board Member of Gençlerbirliği Ankara in honor, is said to have played in the founding of Eskişehirspor with a role, these colors were selected.

A rather improbable version says that the founding members wanted to use the colors of success. So they chose the colors of Rennes. This association was founded in the year ( 1965) by Eskişehirspor French Cup winner.

Over the years, the players of Eskişehirspor received the nickname " Kırmızı Şimşekler " ( the red flashes ).

Fans

The followers of " ESES " are known in Turkey for the successful 1970s. " Amigo Orhan " was the legendary Anpeitscher. Before every home game, he took his place in the center circle and prepared the crowd chants. After the ban to enter the pitch, his place was the opposite stand. With it, you also organized the first grandstand show in Turkey. 1987 traveled the fans of Eskişehirspor, 12,000 in number, in Istanbul's Ali Sami Yen Stadium. The then 30,000 people capacity stadium with 39,000 spectators recorded its all-time high.

Despite the crash of the team in the 3rd League, much of the fans remained loyal to the club. Thus, a viewer average of 10,000 was not unusual. For play-off final in 2005 /06 in Ankara traveled 27,000 fans and then celebrated with the team promotion to the TFF 1 Lig you climb game of the season 2007/08 in İnönü Stadium against Boluspor were 16,000 in attendance, with the tickets were limited to this number.

The attachment to the club is so great that fans of the Istanbul clubs their championships can not celebrate on the streets in Eskişehir, as this is prohibited by the fans of ESES. 2005 had a " Fenerium " ( point of sale of fan of Fenerbahçe ) due to major protests will be closed.

There are several fan clubs. The largest are Kızılcıklı, Nefer and old. Motivated by the rise in 2008 fell into two further groups: KoreoESES and BandoESES. The former group organized choreography ( in Turkey by far not as much as in this country ), large Fanfahnen and is committed to relief efforts for schools in the city and surrounding villages. BandoESES is a string of nearly 40 people group. These support the chants with instruments such as drums, trumpets and other wind instruments. They are in every home game among the followers. Recently, the groups try under the name ETB ( Eskişehirspor taraftar BİRLİGİ - fanbase Eskişehirspor ) to organize as a large unit.

Stadium

Eskişehirspor plays its home games in Eskisehir Ataturk Stadium. How many football stadiums in Turkey is named after the founder of the Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the stadium in Eskişehir. After renovations in 2005, the stadium consists exclusively of seats and offers 18,608 football fans place. The main grandstand ( " Kapali " ) is covered, but smaller than the back straight ( " Açık "). Behind the gates, there is no whistle.

Due to the age, capacity, lack of shelter the back straight and the lack of bleachers behind the gates of the stadium is rather unsuitable for Turkcell Süper Lig and in no way corresponds to the criteria of UEFA.

Through the official candidacy of TFF to host the European Football Championship 2016, the city of Eskişehir was named as one of the eight prospective host cities and the emergence of a planned modern football arena with 38,000 seats. Despite the host of the tournament in France, the new project is to be implemented.
