Espen Barth Eide

Espen Barth Eide ( born May 1, 1964 in Oslo) is a Norwegian political scientist and politician Arbeiderpartiet. From 21 September 2012 to October 16, 2013 he was Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Life

Eide went to the Oslo Cathedral School and graduated in 1993 at the University of Oslo with cand.polit. He also studied at the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

In 1993 he began research at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, the United Nations programs. He was director of the program in 1996, and later worked as a consultant for the panel Threats, Challenges and Change and Report on Integrated Missions. He became head of the International Politics department at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, 2002.

Political career

Under Thorbjørn Jagland Eide worked from 2000 to 2001 as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the government Jens Stoltenberg II Eide was in 2005 Secretary of Defense. In 2010 he returned as Secretary of State back to the Foreign Ministry. On November 11, 2011, he rose to the defense minister on, on September 21, 2012 finally to the Secretary of State.

Since 2001, Eide was a board member of the Party of European Socialists. He was also active in the European Movement International and the World Economic Forum.
