Tora Aasland

Tora Aasland ( born November 6, 1942 in Skien, Telemark) is a Norwegian politician of the Socialist Left Party ( SV). From 2007 to 2012 she was Minister of Science, with responsibility for research and vocational training and university education.

Training

Aasland studied in 1961 at the trade school Telemark and put Colby Jr. College in New Hampshire in the United States the following year from the exam. In 1965, she presented at the Norske Kvinners Nasjonalråds sosialskole the exam from. In 1973 she took a degree in sociology at the University of Oslo and research at the Society Research Institute. She was Secretary General of the property, Literary writers lattice of 1983 until 1985.

Political activity

Until her appointment as Minister in 2007 she was the only SV politician, who held the office of Fylkesmannes.

In 1985 she was elected for the province of Akershus in the Storting and appointed Fylkesmann in Rogaland 1991 ( Appointed 1993). As Fylkesmann she was a member of numerous public committees. In 2005 she was honored with the appointment as commander of the St. Olav Order for its social use.

In the cabinet reshuffle on 18 October 2007 Tora Aasland Minister of Education was charged with the responsibility for vocational training and university education and research in government Jens Stoltenberg II on March 23, 2012 occupied the SV her new cabinet post, Aasland had to leave the government.
