Eßleben-Teutleben

Eßleben - Teutleben is a municipality in the Thuringian district Sömmerda and administratively part of the joint management Buttstädt. It lies directly on the border between Thuringia and Saxony- Anhalt. The community was founded in 1974 from the merger of Eßleben and Teutleben.

History

Community part Teutleben

First mentioned 876 Once, a moated castle was located southwest of the church near the mouth of the Rhine Bach in Rohrbach. They belonged to the lords of Teutleben that have been documented in the 12th century. Remains of a round tower are still preserved (see castle ruins Teutleben ).

Community part Eßleben

First mentioned in 1063 as Usenlebe. At that time the Archbishop of Mainz taxable. Later the church was in possession of changing owners and came in 1815 to the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar- Eisenach.

The Romanesque village church ( position → 51.15237495194411.461830139167 ) with choir tower dates from 1267. Since 2007 it bears the name " Elizabeth's Church ". Unique in Thuringia are the galleries with fragments of concrete ornaments, which were probably deposited in the twelfth century. The richly decorated with carvings altar is a special attraction.

Forced labor

During the Second World War, 48 men and women from Poland, Ukraine and Italy had to do forced labor in agriculture.

Infrastructure

The two districts are connected by a single road that cuts through a corner of Saxony- Anhalt. Teutleben is on the road L 1058, which connects the village to the west and Buttstädt Herrengosserstedt and Eckartsberga in the east.

Meaning: The municipality Eßleben - Teutleben engages in its coat of arms design on the subject of the municipality seal from the 19th century and has with other symbols point to historical and political characteristics of the community. Both communities Eßleben and Teutleben which were independent communities until 1974, each performed a unspecified deciduous tree in the seal in the 19th century. This motif is taken up in the crest design and represented by a lime tree. Linde is a priority for Eßleben. For Teutleben a tower was placed in the arms, as once was a castle of the Lords of Teutleben there. Remains of a round tower are still preserved today.
