Étuz

Etuz is a commune in the Haute- Saône in the Franche-Comté region. It belongs to the district of Vesoul and Canton Marnay. She is a member of the 28 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 218 m above sea level, about 16 km north- northwest of the city of Besançon. Etuz extends to the south of the department, on the northern edge of the valley of Ognon, opposite Cussey -sur- l'Ognon, southeast of the Monts de Gy.

The area of ​​5.30 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the lower Ognon Valley. The southern border is always along the Ognon. This flows here with several turns west through a flat area, which has a width of one to two kilometers and is on average 215 m. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the valley to the adjacent plateau, which is composed of Tertiary sediments. It is divided by the little valley of the Ruisseau de la Douain which opens a little less than Etuz in the Ognon. The plateau is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land, but also shows some forest areas. With 267 meters, the highest elevation of Etuz is achieved in the far north.

Neighboring communities of Etuz are Montboillon and cordonnet in the north, Boulot in the east, Cussey -sur- l'Ognon in the south and Chambornay -lès- Pin and Gézier -et- Fontenelay in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Etuz in the year 1203. During the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The local government was responsible for the first lords of Arguel. The area in 1334 came into the possession of the cathedral chapter of Besançon. Together with the Franche -Comté Etuz came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. After 1845 an iron-containing mineral source was discovered, played a long time the mineral water bottling a significant role.

Attractions

The chapel Sainte -Anne was built in the 16th century on a hill east of the village. Has an altar of alabaster (16th century) from the school of Troyes, statues of St. Sebastian (16th century) and Saint Roch (17th century). Also worth seeing is the Lavoir, which was built in 1842 according to the plans of Pierre Marnotte and two temples there, each with 18 columns.

Population

With 563 inhabitants ( 1999) Etuz one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. Economy and infrastructure
