Euro Hockey League 2009–10

The Euro Hockey League 2009/2010 is the third season of the discharged by the European Hockey Federation Euro Hockey League, the most important European competition for club teams in hockey. The competition was played in four tournaments with group and knock-out phase. The UHC Hamburg succeeded as the first club in the second title win in the EHL.

Preliminary round

The first round, which was held in the fall of 2009 as the group stage took place in the context of two tournaments in the French capital club Saint- Germain -en- Laye HC, as well as the Spanish representative of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. A win there were 5 points, 2 points for a draw and a defeat by less than three goals a point.

Whacked - round

The eighth and quarter finals were held at Easter 2010 HC Rotterdam. In the event of a tie, two extensions follows à 7.5 minutes with silver goal rule. If the connection still firmly stand no winner, followed by the shootout.

The semi-finals and the final and 3rd place match took place at the Dutch club Amsterdamsche Hockey and Bandy Club in the 7000 -seat Wagener Stadium on Pentecost 2010. In the event of a tie, two extensions followed containing 7,5 minutes by silver goal rule. Level in the connection still no winner is determined, followed by the shootout. The EHF also awarded the Final Four tournament of the parallel women's competition, the Club Champions Cup, as a doubleheader to Amsterdam.

Test rules

In the Euro Hockey League, new rules are repeatedly tested before they are introduced in the national leagues, as well as other international competitions after checkout. In the season 2009/2010 the own goal was introduced: this is meant eliminating the need that a striker needs to touch the ball in the shot circle, so that may be decided on goal. Thus, it is now no matter whether an attacking or defending player or goalkeeper touches the ball in the shot circle.
