Evgeni Petrov (cyclist)

Yevgeny Vladimirovich Petrov (Russian: Евгений Владимирович Петров; born May 25, 1978 in Kemerovo Oblast ) is a Russian cyclist.

Once in Verona he took the bronze medal in the U23 time trial at the World Championships in 1999, Petrov a year later won the time trial and the road race. He beat riders like Fabian Cancellara, Michael Rogers and Yaroslav Popovych. He then got a contract from Mapei - Quick · Step and drove there from the 2002 season as a professional. He could win, among other things, a stage of the Tour de l' Ain, the overall classification of the Tour de l' Avenir and the Russian time trial championship. At Paris-Nice 2006, he was on the last stage second behind Markus Zberg.

Between 2009 and 2010 he was the Russian ProTeam Katusha under contract. At the Giro d' Italia 2010, he reached on the 11th stage, the longest of the 2010 edition, according to L' Aquila in a top flight goal that was able to pull a big lead on the peloton and at the end many riders allowed a good finishing position in the overall classification so, for example, Carlos Sastre, Linus Gerdemann, the eventual winner of the youth classification Richie Porte and even the later second overall David Arroyo.
