FA WSL

The FA WSL (former name: FA Women's Super League ) is a semi-professional soccer league for women's football teams in England. This is organized by the English Football Association and The Football Association launched its gaming operations in April 2011. First eight teams will compete against each other in it. WSL solves the FA Women's Premier League from the highest division in the English women's football.

The official name of The FA WSL and its logo were presented on 19 November 2010.

History

Originally the league in 2010 should take their gaming operations, this has been postponed for a year due to the economic crisis. In the run- up of 16 teams competed for the new League: Arsenal, Barnet FC Ladies, Birmingham City LFC, Bristol Academy WFC, Chelsea LFC, Colchester United, Doncaster Rovers Belles, Everton LFC, Leeds Carnegie, Leicester City WFC, Lincoln Ladies and Liverpool LFC Millwall lionesses, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland. Leeds Canergie pulled back a little later his application. The Women's Premier League clubs Blackburn Rovers LFC and LFC Watford rejected an application.

League format

In the WSL eight teams will compete against each other. The season will not start as in other English leagues usual in the fall and ends in spring, but take place over the summer months. Originally, the league should be considered professional by the top four players on each team receive a salary of 20,000 pounds per year. The first two teams in the league qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League 2012/13.

Sponsors

The FA stated to want to find a league sponsor until the summer of 2010. This did not succeed. In November 2010, the responsible of the FA announced that it will form a pool of sponsors.

Media

On 8 December 2009, the FA and the sports channel ESPN UK agreed an exclusive partnership for the next four years. At the station there will be in addition to a weekly summary of up to five live games.
