Fabian Hambüchen

Hambüchen ( born October 25, 1987 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German gymnast. His biggest success he achieved on the horizontal bar with the world champion title in 2007 and winning the bronze at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the silver medal in London in 2012.

Hambüchen gymnastics since the fall of 2012 in the team competition for the art Gymnastics Club Upper Lahn in the central Hessian community Biedenkopf.

Life

Hambüchen was born the second child of Beate and Wolfgang Hambüchen. Shortly after the birth Bergisch Gladbach his family moved to Wetzlar, because his father had accepted a coaching job there. He went up to his graduation in 2007, the Goethe School Wetzlar. Since autumn 2011 Hambüchen is with his girlfriend Caroline. In October 2012, he began to study sports management and communication at the Sport University in Cologne.

Due to his height of 1.65 meters, he is nicknamed "Turn flea ". He lives in Cologne, close to Cologne Sports University.

Sports development

Hambüchen comes from an athletic family. His father was by his own admission itself an ambitious Turner, while the favorite sport of Hambüchen mother is running. His brother was three years old when he watched gymnastics and inspired by the age of twelve, he played first international fights. From early 2004 until February 2012 did gymnastics Hambüchen for KTV Straubenhardt ( KDR ) in the 1st Bundesliga. Since the autumn of 2012, he reinforced the Bundesliga team of the Central Hesse Artistic Gymnastics Association Upper Lahn.

Achievements at national level

On 11 December 2005 he was awarded with the KTV Straubenhardt the first and 28 November 2009 the second German team champion title. 2013 Hambüchen was the seventh time German around champion in Mannheim and presented so that the record of Eberhard Gienger one. 2013 Hambüchen was German Vice Champion in the team competition with the team of KTV Upper Lahn.

International success

Hambüchen first international success was winning the European Youth Championships in 2002 at the bars. Two years later, in 2004, he became the European Junior Championship titles in the disciplines floor, high bar and vault and was third in the all around. In addition Hambüchen has won multiple German champion in the adult area.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics Hambüchen was the youngest male starters the German delegation. He reached in the team competition and qualified in eighth position in the individual for the finals on high bar and in the all around. While he graduated in the all-around final at the 23rd place, he took on the horizontal bar placed seventh.

Winning the European Championship title on 5 June 2005 on the horizontal bar represents Hambüchen first major international success outside the Junior range, as well as the gained bronze in the all around and jump at the World Championships in 2006.

At the European Championships 2007 in Amsterdam, he won silver in the all around and the second time gold on the high bar. At the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, he became the youngest German gold medalist and world champion on the horizontal bar. In multiplayer battle he won the bronze medal in the individual event and silver with the team. With the advent in the team final, the team managed the same time to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

In 2008 Hambüchen brought at the European Championships in Lausanne in the disciplines Reck, team all-around and floor a gold, silver and bronze medal. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he won the bronze medal on the horizontal bar, the parallel bars at the bottom and reached the fourth and in the all-around final fifth place. In 2012 he was able to increase his success in Beijing at the Olympics in London again and won a silver medal on the horizontal bar.

Beginning of April 2009 won Hambüchen to kick off the European Championships in Milan, the first German to around title in front of the British Daniel Keatings and Yuri Ryazanov of Russia and in addition the European title at the bottom. At the World Championships in London Hambüchen traveled to, but during training, he suffered a ligament tear in the outer left ankle so that he could not participate.

With the team Hambüchen 2010 brought at the European Championships in Birmingham the title, and again reached at the World Championships in Rotterdam in third place. On the stretch he won bronze.

Mid-January 2011 he tore the Achilles tendon during training in the left foot, leading to a re- enforced break after itself.

At the Olympic Games in London in 2012 and the World Championships 2013 in Antwerp Hambüchen won on the horizontal bar behind the Dutchman Epke Zonderland each the silver medal. In Antwerp he won the bronze medal in the all around also. In the Summer Universiade 2013 in Kazan, he finished on the ground and in the individual all-around each second. In 2014 he won the overall title of the gymnastics World Cup together with the same number of points British Daniel Purvis.

Other Activities

Hambüchen was totally diving several times a participant of the television celebrity TV competition. Twice he won the individual competition and in 2011 also the synchronized diving with the beach volleyball player Jonas Recker man.

End of May 2010 he won with his father Wolfgang at Millionaire celebrities Special 125,000 euros.

In December 2009, Hambüchen committed as part of a PR campaign for the Initiative for a New Social Market Economy.

A book of Hambüchen entitled Hambüchen - The autobiography was published in 2010.

Hambüchen one of the 100 heads of tomorrow.
