Formation

It originated in the 13th century in Iceland, and was probably written by Snorri Sturluson a student. It is about the time of the Hungarian conquest ( 9th century ) to the Christianization of the Faroe Islands in the 11th century. In the 19th century the saga was then compiled in its usual form today from the Icelandic sources. The first issue concerned the Danish antiquarian Carl Christian Rafn in 1832, the saga its name Færeyínga saga ( with í! ) Owes. Included in Rafns work is a Faroese translation of Pastor Johan Henrik Schroter in its peculiar orthography ( qv).

Content

Around 825 Obviously, the Faroese confused this first wave of land grabbing with the second wave of about 885-890, which was actually an escape from Harald Fairhair rule

In the Faroes, a free republic established by emigrants, and in their capital Tórshavn they had their own Ting. This place called Tinganes is still the seat of government today. The Faroese contains this and other historical facts, especially the history of the Sigmundur Brestisson ( Sigmund ), the Christianized the Faroe Islands against the resistance of the Trond from Gøta ( Trond ) by 1000. Tronds role is so central that the Faroese also " The saga of Trond " is called.
