Fărău
Farau ( German Brenndorf, Hungarian Magyarforró or Forró ) is a town in Alba county in Transylvania, Romania.
Geographical location
The community Farau with the four eingemeindeten villages extends over an area of 8,154 hectares in a hilly landscape in the north-east of Alba County. ( Judetean Drum ) On the county road DJ 107D, the location of the county capital Alba Iulia is located on the eponymous river Farau 17 km southeast of the city Ocna Mureş and approximately 45 kilometers (direct distance ) north-east away.
History
On the territory of the municipality in 1934 remains from the La Tène period were made according to a report by G. Téglás from 1887 and M. Roska. The place Farau was first in 1299 under the name Forró ( from Hungarian literally means " hot" ) mentioned. This name is attributed to the frequent uprisings by serfs against aristocratic landowners. Between 1400 and 1800 the peasants were on the territory of the municipality serfs of noble families.
Today the district Heria ( Harrendorf ) was first documented in 1202 mentioned under the name vila Heren, 1274 at Terra Hari and 1733 under Hyrie.
The residents now live mainly from agriculture and animal husbandry.

The population on the territory of present church took since the peak in 1956 (then 5086 ) significantly. The highest population of the German population ( 29) in the community was in 1890 that the Magyars ( 1384 ) 1930, the Roma (102 ) 1850 and the Slovaks ( 2) 1880, counted.
Attractions
- Built in place in 1762 and repeatedly rebuilt wooden church Sfintii Arhangheli Mihail şi Gavril ( " Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel " ) is a listed building.
- In eingemeindeten village Sânbenedic ( Benedict ) wooden churches Sf. Nicolae built in 1730 and Sf. Arhangheli built in 1775 and the wooden churches in silea ( Bruckbad ) Sf. Arhangheli built in 1664 and Sf. Nicolae built in 1761-1774, are under monument protection.
