FC Nordsjælland
The FC Nordsjælland (FCN ) is a Danish football club based in Farum, Furesø community, a suburb of Copenhagen.
History
The club is an amalgamation of the first teams from smaller clubs from various municipalities in the north of the island of Zealand in the Capital Region to a professional team. Currently, the clubs Espergaerde IF, Farum Boldklub, Græsted IF, Helsinge SI, Hundested BK, Slagslunde - Ganløse IF, FC Jonstrup and Måløv Boldklub are involved, continue to exist independently. Basic idea of this collaboration is to improve the athletic environment for young players as well as the creation of a network of associations from the region North Zealand for better marketing. In its first three years of the FC Nordsjælland was indeed consistently top notch, but they found themselves in the bottom half of the table again. The FC Nordsjælland won in the 2009/10 season the Danish Football Cup Country Cup Turner Ingen 2-0 aet against FC Midtjylland. This is indeed the very first title of the association. The following season, 2010/11, the title could defend you even in the final Nordsjælland won again against FC Midtjylland 3-2.
Internationally
By the third place in the championship season, 2003, the FCN reached for the UEFA Cup qualification. After surviving qualification with 4-0 and 2-0 against Shirak Gyumri from Armenia, the team failed in the first round of the UEFA Cup 1:2 and 0:1 at Panionios Athens. In the season of the UEFA Cup in 2008/ 09 could also qualify by winning against TVMK Tallinn and Queen of the South for the main round, but failed again to a Greek representative by a 0:2 and 0:7 against Olympiakos Piraeus. In qualifying for the UEFA Europa League 2010/11 the team Sporting Lisbon defeated in the third qualifying round with 0:1 and 1:2. 2011/12 subject to the FCN in the playoffs again against Sporting Lisbon to a 0-0 draw in the first leg with 1:2 in the second leg. Through the Danish championship in the 2011/12 season FC Nordsjælland was qualified directly for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League 2012/13. There, however, would retire after a draw from home against Juventus and five defeats with the worst outcome of all 32 participants.
