Félines-Termenès

Félines- Termenès is a commune with 134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aude department in the Languedoc- Roussillon region. It belongs to the district of Carcassonne, in the canton of Mouthoumet and the Local Government Association, Massif de Mouthoumet.

Geography

The community Félines- Termenès is located about 40 kilometers southwest of Narbonne and 40 km south-east of Carcassonne.

The municipality covers a portion of the Libre valley amidst the Corbières mountain country. The village is situated at the mouth of the Saint -Jean in the small river Libre, which flows beneath eight kilometers from Félines- Termenès in the Orbieu. The hilly area is characterized by open Mediterranean shrub heaths ( garrigue ) and embedded viticulture. The highest point in the area of the municipality is the plateau of La mat with 621 m above sea level in the far southeast.

Félines- Termenès bordered to the north by Ville -Termenès, on the southeast by Palairac, to the south by Dave Jean, on the southwest by Laroque -de- Fa and to the northwest by Termes.

History

The origin of the village Félines is dated to the 10th century. For the year 1262 is testified that Olivier de Termes was one of the lords of Félines. From the year 1285 a Good Templar of Peyrens ( at Castelnaudary ), or their successors, the Knights of St. John Commandery Homps survives in Félines.

Before the French Revolution the city was the seat of a royal court and capital of the Viguerie Termenès.

In the southeast of the core village hamlet Récompech as well as in the Serre de la mat there until 1804 smaller iron mines. In the 19th century there were in the village three grain mills and a marble quarry.

From 1908 to 1932 Félines- Termenès was connected to the railway network ( Compagnie des Tramways à Vapeur de l' Aude).

Economy and infrastructure

In addition to small craft and service companies viticulture is the main industry in the town. The vines in the municipal area are within the protected designation of origin Corbières.

Transport links

Through the village the road leads from Narbonne to Quillan (D 613). Another road connects Félines- Termenès with the place Tuchan.
