Filippo de Angelis

Filippo De Angelis ( born April 16, 1792 in Ascoli Piceno, † July 6, 1877 in Fermo ) was an Italian archbishop and cardinal.

Life

After the son of a patrician family had visited the seminary in Ascoli Piceno, he studied at the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome. Then he continued his studies at the University La Sapienza, he utriusque with a doctorate Doctor iuris, which he received on 22 July 1818 and a doctorate in philosophy and theology, which he received on September 25, 1819 left.

After his ordination De Angelis was elevated to the rank of Monsignor and was a professor for many years at his alma mater. He was also a canon of the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

On July 3, 1826, he was named Leo XII. Titular Bishop of Leuce. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archpriest of St. Peter's, Pietro Galleffi, on 23 July of the same year; Co-consecrators were the Latin Patriarch of Constantinople Opel, Giuseppe della Porta Rodiani, and the president of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, Giovanni Giacomo Sinibaldi. On July 24, 1826, he was appointed vicar apostolic visitor of Forlì, as was negotiated against Bishop Andrea Bratti in Rome. On March 15 of 1830 he was appointed Titular Archbishop of Cartagine and in the same year on 23 April, he was sent as nuncio to Switzerland. He was to travel on 13 November 1832 as Nuncio to Portugal, but the office in Portugal was unable to start because the diplomatic relations with the Holy See were canceled shortly after his appointment. He remained in Switzerland and returned for health reasons in April 1839 by Schwyz back to Italy, although the appointment as bishop he had been informed of Montefiascone in December 1837.

He was appointed with effect from 15 February 1838 Bishop of Montefiascone, where he led the personal title of archbishop.
