Focus Features is an American film production and distribution company.

History

Universal acquired and merged in June 2002, the indie film studios USA Films and Good Machine. The established production, marketing and rental of U.S. film was supplemented with management and international distribution partners of Good Machine. The management of the newly founded Focus was James Schamus and David Linde ( Good Machine ) transmitted that enforced their opposition to planned compulsory redundancies after the merger.

Focus focuses primarily on the U.S. distribution of foreign films and celebrated great success with international hits such as Swimming Pool, The Pianist, Lost in Translation and House of Flying Daggers. The production of independent films, however, was crowned with laurels less. After the flop Owned and Vanity Fair is only Forget me could not! enforce critical and audience acclaim. Back in 2006, Focus has been nominated for 16 Oscars, whereupon David Linde joined the Universal Board and Schamus has since been president of the company.

Focus has offices in London, Los Angeles, New York City and Paris. After only five years of existence, Focus one next to Miramax and Lionsgate to the most prominent indie companies.

The qualitative strength of the Focus films resulted in considerable success in allocating film awards. Focus won the following awards:
