Franco Forini

Forini Franco ( born September 22, 1958 in Muralto ) is a former Swiss racing driver.

After he was 1985 Italian Formula 3 Champion, the international racing became aware of him.

F3000

In the 1986 season Forini drove some races of the Formula 3000 Championship. His first Formula 3000 race was the Grand Prix of Rome in Vallelunga. Here he was reported by the newly established team in this class Coloni, but could not qualify in a used March 85B. From the fifth race of the season, the Tropheo Elio de Angelis in Imola, until the ninth race, the Halfords Birmingham Super Prix, Forini launched for the Italian team Racing San Remo. The first two attempts he was able to qualify; the best result was a sixth place at Imola, which earned him a championship point. In the second race for San Remo Forini was again 14, after which three non qualifications joined. Then the team of Forini separated; he was replaced for the last two championship runs by Alessandro Santin. With a championship point Forini closed the Formula 3000 season as peer 21 in the driver standings. For the 1987 season, he received no cockpit in the formula 3,000.

Formula 1

In the 1987 Formula 1 season Franco Forini contested three Grand Prix for the Italian team Osella, namely the Grand Prix of Italy, Portugal and Spain. The financially heavily damaged Osella team was in 1987 mostly just a vehicle, a, for the Alex Caffi was reported as a regular driver. For the last three European races of the season, it was decided, however, precisely to report two cars. Forini brought some sponsors who funded the use of the second car. Forini received a vehicle of the series FA1G. Were driven the cars of old, maintained by Osella himself Alfa Romeo turbo engines, whose overall performance hardly reached the level of 1987 approved again aspirated engines. The direct competitor of small Italian racing team this year was the poorly established Tyrrell team, further AGS and since September 1987 active team Coloni, who drove all with Cosworth normally aspirated engines.

Franco Forinis racing in Osella were disappointing. Forini had fought a few years before in Formula 3 at comparable levels of performance with Alex Caffi, however, came in Formula 1 does not match the performance of his teammates. The time differences between the two Osella drivers were striking. Some observers from Italy, however felt that this was back to being Osella was overwhelmed with the preparation of two Formula 1 cars and Forinis car was not treated with the care that was bestowed Caffi than regular drivers.

In his first Formula 1 race, the Italian Grand Prix, is Forini qualified last. His residue at the pole time was 10 seconds, and the residue to his teammate Caffi 2.5 seconds. His times were still above those of Nicola Larini, who raced for the first time reported Coloni team, and by Pascal Fabre in AGS. In the race Forini fell after a defect from the turbocharger in the 27th round.

The subsequent Grand Prix of Portugal did not help: here clothed the Osellas the last two ranks, Forini 9 seconds off the pole time and nearly 3 seconds behind Alex Caffi. In the 32th round, the rear suspension collapsed on Forinis Osella, and he had to finish the race.

Among the remaining three Grand Prix competitions of the year in Mexico, Japan and Australia renounced Osella for cost reasons, a second car, so there was no room in the team for Forini. For the following years no Formula 1 team showed interest in signing Forinis.

According to the formula 1
