François Simon (cyclist)

François Simon ( born October 28, 1968 in Troyes ) is a former French cyclist. He is the younger brother of Régis, Pascal and Jérôme Simon, all three also former professional cyclists.

François Simon took between 1993 and 2002 some ten times in a row at the Tour de France. There he achieved his best result in 2001 finishing sixth overall. At that time it succeeded on the eighth stage of a group of 13 riders - out down over 30 minutes on the main field - among them Simon. After the tenth leg he received in the destination L' Alpe d' Huez the yellow leader's jersey and had at this time more than 20 minutes ahead of the later Tour winner Lance Armstrong. Simon showed fighting spirit and defended the yellow jersey still looking for a individual time trial and the first stage in the Pyrenees, but was overtaken on the 13th stage of the favorites.
