Frastanz

Frastanz is a market town with 6280 inhabitants (December 31, 2013) in Feldkirch district in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg.

Frastanz is located in the district of Feldkirch in Vorarlberg, the westernmost federal state of Austria, at 510 meters above sea level. 61.2 percent of the area is forested. The Samina flows to Frastanz in the Ill. Quarters are:

History

Frastanz lies on a Roman road. The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau).

The Frastafeders castle was probably built around 1258 in the wake of the first montfortischen line division as an outpost of Earl of mountain against Feldkirch. They also probably had the task of securing the route via the Sarojajoch. Which man was sitting service narrowness of Bad Werdenberger in the 13th century on Frastafeders is unknown. 1317 gave Count Rudolf II of Werdenberg -Sargans the castle the kingdom knight Ulrich Thumb von Neuburg. The Frastafeders castle was not even one hundred years. As early as 1344 it was destroyed during a confrontation between the Count of Montfort- Feldkirch.

On Frastanzer ground the battle of Frastanz took place in 1499, one of the bloodiest and most decisive battles of the Swabian War. From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria.

Frastanz under stood for a long time the rule Sonnenberg.

On June 15, 1910 Ill broke through the dams at three points and turned the Frastanzer Ried into a large lake.

For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Frastanz heard since the foundation in 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was created in 1968 after a design by the artist and Schrunser heraldist Konrad Honold.

The award of the coat of arms by the Provincial Government of Vorarlberg was on May 2, 1969 The symbol of Hifthorns reminiscent of a legend which is said to have played at the bloody battle of Frastanz in 1499. Should A shepherd boy on Amerlügen a roundabout way unexpectedly approaching Department noticed the Confederates and have warned his countrymen with his horn until he fell dead to the ground. The sun in blue expresses belonging to the County of Sonnenberg.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 27 members. The composition of the 2010 election is ÖVP: 14 seats ( 48.15 %), Social Democratic Party 6 seats ( 23.15 %), FPÖ 4 seats ( 16.84 %), the Greens 3 seats ( 11.86% ). Mayor is Eugen Gabriel of the ÖVP. The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 5,472,670, the municipal expenditure at € 8,786,152. The debt was 2001 9.458.227 €.

Economy and infrastructure

In the district Fellengatter used to be the tobacco cultivation and Hanfseilerei livelihood. At the site there were in 2003 117 companies in the industrial sector with 1,687 employees and 122 apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 2,533.
