Gary Herbert

Gary Richard Herbert ( born May 7, 1947 in American Fork, Utah ) is an American politician of the Republican Party since 2009 and Governor of the State of Utah.

Biography

Gary Herbert was born in 1947 in American Fork and grew up in Orem. After visiting the Orem High School, he took a degree at the Mormon Brigham Young University in Provo. 1976 graduated from Herbert the course Graduate Realtor Institute of the National Association of Realtors and began working as a real estate agent. He was seven years instructor at Utah Valley Technical College and held the position of Director of the Utah Association of Realtors held. Herbert served in the Utah Army National Guard.

From 1990 to 2005 Herbert was one of the three elected representatives of the County Commission in Utah County. In the pre-election campaign of 2004 he sought initially to the Office of the Governor of Utah, but then accepted the offer of Jon Huntsman to run as his lieutenant governor. They won the election, after which Herbert from 2005 held the office of Lieutenant Governor. In the 2008 election, they were re-elected with 77.9 % of votes.

16 May 2009 Huntsman was nominated in the People's Republic of China by U.S. President Barack Obama as the Ambassador of the United States. On August 11, Herbert succeeded him in the governorship. In November 2010 he was confirmed with 64:32 percent of the vote to Democrat Peter Corroon in office. 2012 he applied again to the re-election.

Herbert is with Jeanette Herbert, nee Snelson, married, with whom he has six children and eight grandchildren. He belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ( Mormons).
