Geinberg

Geinberg is a municipality in Upper Austria in the district of Ried in the Innviertel with 1418 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Ried.

Geography

Geinberg is located on 403 m altitude in Innviertel. The expansion is 5.2 kilometers from north to south, from west to east 5.5 km away. The total area is 14 km ². 17.9% of the area is forested, 71.4 % of the area is used for agriculture.

History

Since the establishment of the Duchy of Bavaria, the place was Bavarian until 1779 and came to the Peace of Teschen with the Innviertel (then ' Innbaiern ') to Austria. Geinberg was a church patronage of the Counts Aham, who had their seat on the Neuhaus Castle in the municipality of Geinberg. Joseph Matthias Franz Xaver Benedict Count of Aham and Neuhaus (1820-1881) died here as the last of the race, and was buried at the Abbey of Rich Mountain.

During the Napoleonic Wars shortly Bavarian, it belongs since 1814 finally to Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on 13 March 1938, the town belonged to the " Upper Danube ". After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria.

Shortly after 1945, there were in Geinberg first ideas, the place to establish itself as thermal, spa and beach resort. However, it should last more than 50 years, was up from the vision a reality. Due to its broad impact and the importance for the region, the Geinberg has lead project character.

1974: RAG ( crude oil discovery company OMV ) drilled for oil and comes across hot water. The well is closed again because the RAG is not authorized to use the hot water resources still interested in the longer term.

1980: A local interest group funded with support from the province of Upper Austria, a recent test drilling - this time with the aim to tap the hot water reserves discovered in 1974. The wells are successful. We come across one of the richest and hottest mineral springs in Central Europe.

1991: VAMED group begins with the project development.

1996: The project development through the VAMED group is complete, the financing secured by a funding consortium of the Raiffeisen -Landesbank Upper Austria protrudes.

07 /1996: reconstitution of a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Geinberg. With 54.5 million Euro investment on an area of ​​102,000 m² in the town of Geinberg the thermal center was at that time until the opening of the largest construction site in Upper Austria. In a record time of only 20 months of this project was built in the planned time frame.
