George William Smith (politician)

George William Smith ( * 1762 in Bathurst, Essex County, Virginia; † December 26, 1811 in Richmond, Virginia ) was an American politician and in 1811, Governor of Virginia.

Career

The exact date of birth of George Smith is unknown. The sources go but from 1762 as a year of his birth. He was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party of Thomas Jefferson and was 1790-1808 times with interruptions deputy in the House of Representatives from Virginia. After that, he was a member and President of the Executive Council, a forerunner of the Senate of Virginia.
