Gimigliano

Gimigliano is an Italian town in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria with 3408 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Gimigliano located 20 km north- west of Catanzaro in the valley of the Corace. The neighboring municipalities are Carlopoli, Catanzaro, Cicala, Decollatura, Fossato Serralta, Pentone, San Pietro Apostolo, Sorbo San Basile, Soveria Mannelli and Tiriolo.

The village was founded in the 9th century. Coastal residents fleeing from the Saracens laid at this time new settlements in the mountains on.

Attractions

The sanctuary was built in 1947. It is located about 4 km from the town center. The original church was built in 1753. Every year at Pentecost, there are pilgrims at the church. The goal is the Madonna Madonna Costantinopoli, which should have been completed in the 17th century, according to legend, by an angel.
