Course

The national road 8a ( E 94, E 65, E 55 ) connects Athens with the port city of Patras in northwestern Peloponnese. It replaces the E.O. 8a as a first expansion stage, the National Highway 8 (EO 8) with de facto identical routes and pipeline route.

The national road 8a leaves to the west of Athens at the height of Dafni Monastery and runs along the coast first to Elefsina, the city is happening in their north ( coastal away ), and then strikes the highway 6 ( A6 Attiki Odos ) in the west of Elefsina. The other route along the coast leads the EO 8a and A8 initially Nea Peramos to Megara, which is bypassed offshore in the south. Between Megara and Kineta the E.O. happened 8a and A8 the cliff section of Kakia scale, where part of the expansion of the A8 two tunnels were created. After the passage of the EO Kakia scale runs 8a and A8 continues on the coast of the Saronic Gulf to Loutraki at the Ostzufahrt of the Corinth Canal.

The Corinth Canal is crossed at a bridge, the EO 8a and A8 already running towards Corinth on the Gulf of Corinth. Corinth is bypassed to the south of the city in an arc. To the west of Corinth, near the ancient Corinth branches from the EO 8a and the A8 highway 7 to Tripoli and Kalamata from. After this junction ( motorway junction ), the expansion status ends as Highway 8 ( A8).

The GR- EO8a oriented from the west of Corinth on the southern coast of the Gulf of Corinth to the west towards Patras. Subsequently, the E.O. follows 8a always the coast to the Strait of Rio ( - Antirrio ). In contrast to the ancient route of E.O. 8 extends the E.O. 8a straight and traversed until after Vernadaikia no places in town.

From Vernadaikia is the E.O. 8a again interpreted as Highway 8 and has a junction with the EO 5 ( E 55 ), the west coast of Greece opens up about the Rio - Antirrio bridge on the Ionian Sea. After the Rio Antirrio bridge the E.O. runs 8a in a southwesterly direction to directly to the east of the city of Patras. As E.O. 8 and E.O. 8a, the road leads directly to Patras in the city center; as Highway 8 Patras is bypassed in an arc from northeast to southwest until it impinges on National Road 9 (EO 9), bringing the west coast of the Peloponnese is reached.
