Greifenstein

Access stone is a municipality in the Lahn- Dill-Kreis in Hesse. Access stone with its ten districts comprising 67.43 km ² on the eastern slope of the Westerwald. It is named from the dominant castle ruins in the town district. The seat of the municipality is in the district of Beilstein.

Access stone bordered to the northwest (all in the Lahn- Dill-Kreis ) and the community Lohnberg and on the southwest by the municipality Driedorf, on the north by the city of Herborn and the sense of community, in the east on the community Ehringhausen, in the south on the town Leun the community Menger churches (both in Limburg- Weilburg ).

Demographics

From the Land Audit Hesse for the community Greifenstein in October 2010 a decline in population of 2377 inhabitants in 2050 was calculated.

Geography

Access stone extends from about 170 m above sea level at Allendorf, where the Ulmbach flows in the sub-district of Leun, up to 605 m above sea level at the node near the hamlet Arborn. The area is very diverse coined by partially flat plains to the hills to steep slopes.

With 51.13 % forest area, the municipality has Greifenstein the largest proportion of forest communities of the Hessian. This results in high revenue from forestry for the municipal budget. It outweigh mixed forests, there are also pure districts with conifers.

Access stone is drained by the Kallenbach and the Ulmbach. Both are fed by several tributaries from the forests before they open into the Lahn.

Natural lakes, there are none. The district is rich in mineral resources, especially basalt and clay. Previously, iron ore was promoted.

History

The gripping stone castle was first mentioned in 1160. She was eponymous for the community, which was founded in 1977 in the course of municipal reform in Hesse.

Incorporations

On 1 February 1971, the municipality Ulmtal was newly formed by the merger of the municipalities Allendorf, Holzhausen and Ulm.

On December 31, 1971, until then independent municipality Rodenroth was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Beilstein. On 1 July 1972, added Rodenberg.

Today's settlement was established by the law on the restructuring of the Dill circle, the counties of Giessen and Wetzlar and Giessen on 1 January 1977 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Greifenstein and Ulmtal from the district of Wetzlar and Arborn, Beilstein, Nenderoth and Odersberg from the Dillkreis.

The municipal election held 27 March 2011 yielded the following results:

Mayor Election 2012

In the election for mayor 13 May 2012 competed Christoph Zörb (CDU ) and Stefan stove ( party) against the incumbent since 2006 Martin Kröckel (independent). Kröckel was confirmed as mayor with 67.1 % ( 2084 votes) in office. Zörb gained 28.3 percent (877 votes), cooker 4.6 percent (143 votes). Turnout was with 3138 votes cast at 56.5 %. Called for a vote, a total of 5551 Greifensteiner. Kröckels second term began on 1 October 2012.

Twinning

Since 1980 is twinned with Sankt Andra - Woerdern in Austria.

Public institutions

The town hall of the municipality and the municipal grasping stone yard located in Beilstein. The registrar's office maintains at the castle Greifenstein a wedding room. The municipality maintains as employer of ten volunteer fire services with a fleet of 20 vehicles. Overall, there are 11 municipally owned cemeteries where both Christian and Islamic burials are performed. There is also in Beilstein, right on Ulmbach, a historic Jewish cemetery.

Transport and Infrastructure

The municipality is located in the city triangle of Wetzlar, Weilburg and Herborn. The motorway junctions Ehringhausen, Wetzlar East and South Herborn on the A 45 can be reached within 10 to 20 minutes, just as the federal highway 49, the municipal area by dragging multiple state and county roads. In some places the traffic bypasses the town centers will be led around, such as in Holzhausen and Beilstein. All districts are served by bus services.

From 1922 led the Ulmtalbahn of the Lahn Valley Railway on the Leuner districts Stockhausen, Biskirchen and Bissenberg and Greifensteiner districts Allendorf, Ulm and Holzhausen to Beilstein. Originally this track was to be built up Driedorf to meet there on the Westerwald cross train. Mid-1970s, the passenger and the early 1990s was also suspends freight. Economy

Located in the forest between the villages of grasping stone and Holzhausen, is since 1901 the Pulmonary Clinic Waldhof Elgershausen. Today, this is an acute care hospital, the patients cared for in the joint venture with the University Hospital Giessen and Marburg with diseases of the respiratory system. Awareness, the hospital has gained through the work of Prof. Dr. Harald Morr, who as director on 1 June 2009 retired after 30 years of service. In the district of Holzhausen is a rescue station of the DRC.

In the municipality of about 1,120 social insurance contributions are present in the 135 resident holdings, approximately another 350 jobs at mini-job basis. Around half of workers is engaged in manufacturing, mainly in the metal and wood processing. Also, the mining of clay and basalt is still characteristic for the region. Back in the 90s one of the first wind turbines in the region was built at Rodenroth. Since 2013, the wind farm will be built at node Arborn. In Greifenstein three newspapers appear. In the towns of the former Dill circle the Herborner Tageblatt and the dill newspaper appear. In the towns of the former district of Wetzlar Wetzlar Neue Zeitung ( WNZ). WNZ and Herborner Tageblatt come from the publishing house of the newspaper group Lahn- Dill in Wetzlar.

Education

There are three community- owned kindergartens in Allendorf, Beilstein and Nenderoth further two primary schools in Allendorf and Beilstein. In addition, individual courses in the field of Adult Education of the Lahn- Dill- Academy in the village communal houses of individual districts are held.

Tourism

The municipal area are the Greifenstein with the German Clock Museum and the ruins of the castle in the village of Beilstein Beilstein. In many places there are small museums, which are guided and entertained by local associations and usually reflect the regional history of the place. Attraction is the Ulmtalsperre in Holzhausen with a campground with 250 spaces, a lawn and a swimming area. The approximately 2.7 -mile paved walkway around the lake is actively used by walkers, cyclists, inline skaters and Nordic walkers.

In the districts Arborn and Nenderoth is outdoor pools. Lifts are available in grasping stone and Arborn. Holiday home areas there are in Arborn, Rodenroth and grasping stone. Since 2002 in Allendorf, the outdoor center - Lahn valley, a nature-loving leisure and adventure park.

Various markets are held at Easter and Christmas at the castle Greifenstein. A medieval market has established itself at the castle, as well as the " Celtic Rock Festival " with a predominantly German rock bands. Public theater, wine festivals, guided hikes, and the IVV walking in Allendorf and Beilstein are from the cultural offer in the community. Organisers of almost all events are the local branches.

Personalities

  • Erwin Piscator was born in 1893 in Ulm, in the then district of Wetzlar. He was one of the most famous German theater directors and directors of his time.
  • The producer, composer, artist and songwriter Christian Siegfried Fietz lives and works in Allendorf.
