Guyans-Vennes

Guyans -Vennes is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Guyans -Vennes is at 727 m above sea level, 12 km north of Morteau and about 42 km east of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in a valley that is easily dug into the basin of Vennes, at the southern foot of the forest height of the Bois de Gassard and west of the Valley of Dessoubre.

The area of ​​19.67 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area occupied by the basin of Vennes, which has a width of about 4 km and a length of nearly 10 km away and is on average 770 m. It is mainly consisted of arable and meadow land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. Sunk in the basin is the dry valley of Guyans -Vennes, the topographical part of the catchment area of ​​the Dessoubre.

In the north and northwest, the basin is flanked by a wooded ridge on which the Bois de Gassard (970 m), the Frémont ( 984 m the highest elevation of Guyans -Vennes ) and the Bois du Roi ( 859 m) belong. This ridge forms an anticline of the Jura Mountains and is oriented according to the strike of the mountain range in the southwest-northeast direction. It is bordered on the north by the municipality of soil erosion valley of the Reverotte, to the east by the valley cut Dessoubre, where the border is not along the rivers, but the steep, partly traversed by bands of rock valley slopes. With a narrow tip, the municipality's area extends eastward up to the mountain area of ​​Le Russey south of the rock circus Cirque de Consolation.

History

The territory of Guyans -Vennes was settled very early. In the late Bronze Age tumulus is backdated. At the hamlet of Grand- Chaux traces of a Roman camp have been found. In the Middle Ages Guyans -Vennes belonged first to rule Montfaucon, after the reign of Vennes. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1998 Guyans -Vennes is a member of the 44- villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Pierre Fontaine - Vercel.

On 1 January 2009 there was a change in the membership of the district municipality. So far, belonging to the district Besançon, all municipalities in the canton came to the district Pontarlier.

Attractions

The village church of Guyans -Vennes was built in the classical style and has a painting of Our Lady of Consolation from the period around 1500. Hôtel Normand dates from the 17th century. From the medieval castle Châtel- Neuf ruins remain.

Population

With 755 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Guyans -Vennes is one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1906 700 people were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1960s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Guyans -Vennes was to the 20th century, a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming, farming ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now various operations of the small business sector, including in the fields of cheese making, woodworking and watch industry. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is of Orchamps -Vennes on the main road D461 which leads from Besançon Morteau within easy reach. Further road links exist with Fuans and Consolation maisonettes.
