The Halifax Stanfield International Airport (English: Halifax Robert L. Stanfield International Airport, or Halifax / Stanfield International Airport ) is an international airport located south of the town of Enfield ( Nova Scotia ), about 38 kilometers north of Halifax. History

The Halifax Stanfield Airport was built in behalf of the Ministry of Transport and operational in June 1960. The airport initially received a temporary license. The air terminal was officially opened to air traffic on September 10, 1960. In its first year, 180,000 passengers flew from the Halifax airport. In the 1970s, passenger numbers grew disproportionately. A new terminal building was opened in July 1976; the total area of ​​21,940 square meters have been added to the waiting hall with 5000 square meters. 1988 two makeshift runways were built for the passengers to meet the increasing demand.
