Haslen

Haslen is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland.

The village was under the Glarus municipality reform on 1 January 2011 with the communities Betschwanden, Braunwald, Elm, Engi, Linthal, Luchsingen, Matt, Mitlödi, Ruti ( GL), Schwanden ( GL), Schwändi, and Sool, the new municipality of Glarus Süd merged.

Coat of arms

In honor of Rudolf Stüssis the colors of Zurich can be found on the left side of the crest. The right side, a lion with a hazel in the paws, reminiscent of the hamlet of Leu.

Geography

The 2.5 km long road Haslen village is located in the Glarus hinterland, in Grosstals, on the right side between Hätzingen and Schwanden at the foot of the mountain free Kärpf. To the community includes the hamlets of Buel, Upper Haslen, Leu, and sing to Mülibächli. From the municipality is 45.5 % are agricultural land, 43.9 % is forest, 2.8% is built-up area and 7.8 % is unproductive.

On the political community Haslen since 1 July 2006, the area belongs to the previously independent municipalities Leuggelbach and Nidfurn.

The SP has 54.1 % of the votes, 45.9 % of the votes going to other parties.

History

Around 1350 Haslen was first mentioned in documents as Hasla. The monastery possessed Säckingen to 1395 large estates in Haslen. Until the construction of the church in Schwanden in 1349 Hasler were kirchgenössig to Glarus. 1528 are converted to the Reformed faith the inhabitants.

In 1896 was the separation of this stream, so Haslen was a separate municipality.

On 1 July 2006, the formerly independent communities Haslen, Leuggelbach and Nidfurn merged to form the new municipality Haslen. At the same time the new total municipality received a new coat of arms.

Attractions

The birthplace of Rudolf Stiissi, the Stüssihaus, stands in the hamlet sing to. Stiissi was mayor of the city of Zurich in the Old Zurich War. He fell defending the Sihlbrücke in 1443rd
