Heiligenblut is a municipality with 1069 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia.

Heiligenblut is a high-altitude alpine village and is an ideal base for visiting the Pasterze and for the ascent of the Grossglockner visited often. Heiligenblut is the starting point of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

Heiligenblut is located in an average of 1288 m above sea level at the foot of the Grossglockner ( 3798 m ) at the top end of the Moelltal valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park. In Heiligenblut Fleißtal is.

History

Capital is the village of Heiligenblut. It is located about 55 kilometers north- west of the hospital. It is situated in the municipality, on to 1290 m above sea level. Demographics

Between the 1991 and 2001 censuses, the population has declined due to emigration by 5.9 %; migration could not be offset by a slightly positive birth rate. Before that, since 1981, the population had declined by 5.4%.

Religions

According to the 2001 census, 95.5 % of the population were Roman Catholic, 1.8% are Protestant. The minority denominations are each less than 1%. Without religious beliefs are 0.7%.

Culture and sights

Structures

  • The parish and pilgrimage church of Saint Vincent, south located below the village on a hillside, is in its present appearance a steep towering Gothic building from the 15th century. A chapel was first mentioned already in 1271; it was renewed from 1273 and completed in 1301. In the late 14th century led to a new building, the choir was completed in 1430. 1909/11, the church was restored and equipped with a new body and new windows.
