Heinrich Mussinghoff

Mussinghoff Heinrich ( born October 29, 1940 in Osterwick ) is Bishop of Aachen.

Life

Mussinghoff studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms- University Münster and Freiburg im Breisgau. On 4 March 1967 he was ordained a deacon. On June 29, 1968, he was consecrated by the Bishop of Munster Joseph Hoffner priest. From 1971 to 1976 he was bishop secretary of Bishop Henry Tenhumberg. He received his doctorate in 1978 with the theme of theological faculties in the field of tension between church and state by the Prussian Concordat.

From 1980 Mussinghoff belonged to the Münster cathedral chapter. From 1981 to 1995 he was head of the Church as ex officio proceedings court in Muenster, after he had added at the Gregorian University in Rome 's canon law studies. In 1990 he became dean in Münster.

After January 23, 1994 had died Klaus Hemmerle, Bishop of Aachen, appointed by Pope John Paul II Mussinghoff on 12 December 1994 as Bishop of Aachen. Cardinal Joachim Meisner consecrated him on 11 February 1995 on the bishop; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Münster, Reinhard Lettmann and Auxiliary Bishop of Aachen Gerd thickness. His motto is Parate viam Domini ( " Prepare the way of the Lord" ).

From 1999 to 2011 he was deputy chairman of the German Bishops' Conference. Since 2006 Mussinghoff is chairman of the Sub-Commission issues of Judaism in the ecumenical commission of the German Bishops' Conference. He is a member of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signatura and the Roman Congregation for the Clergy since 1995.

In 1998 he was appointed by Cardinal Carlo Cardinal Furno Grand Master Grand Officer of the Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem, and on 9 May 1998, Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy invested by Anton Schlembach, in the Mainz Cathedral. Mussinghoff is also prior of the Rhenish-Westphalian Province of the Order of the Knights of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.

Honors

  • Since his inauguration Mussinghoff is Ehrendomkapitular of the chapter to Münster.
