The Herborn Bahnhof ( Dillkreis ) is the main railway station of the city of Herborn on the Dill line (the part of the former Deutz- Gießen railway) in central Hesse.

History

The station was built as a station on the Deutz- Gießen railway. The start-up of the total distance on January 12, 1862 here began the public transport.

Reception building

The station building was built in the Neo-Renaissance style and is stylistically matched to the adjacent building of the post, together with which it dominates the station forecourt. The planning by the architect Ludwig Hofmann. The building was in 1908, after the fire of 1904, built and replaced the original building from 1862. Reception building from 1908 is thus a monument of the "second generation" of structural engineering at the track. It had become necessary because the old station building after connecting the two branch lines was no longer sufficient.

The station building is designed in an asymmetrical floor plan. It is dominated by a rugged, slate covered roof landscape. Street side facade is of an eccentrically mounted, large arched windows dominates with a this outstanding Renaissance gable. Here lies the road-side entrance to the lobby. The station building is now a cultural monument under the Hessian Monument Protection Act.

The station building is now used only partially by a restaurant and a sales kiosk. Tickets can be purchased at the kiosk and vending machines. The station building and railway facilities make an overall unkempt.

Traffic

Remained the station are a home and an island platform today. Another island platform along with track systems that served the traffic of Herborn outgoing, now disused branch lines earlier, as well as the east adjoining railway tracks are removed and now form an industrial wasteland.

Today, hold regional express trains of the relation Siegen- Giessen- Frankfurt Hbf ( Main -Sieg- Express) and regional trains connecting Dillenburg -Frankfurt Hbf ( Central Hesse Express). The transport is driven by the order of RMV by DB Regio and HLB.

Previously, the station was served by two other routes:

  • The Aar - Salzböde train from Niederwalgern ended and perverse HERE FROM 1902 to 2001.
  • The Westerwald cross train to Montabaur started and perverse HERE FROM 1906 until 1980.

The station is no longer staffed.
