Hero of the Russian Federation

Hero of the Russian Federation (Russian Герой Российской Федерации, transliteration Geroj Rossijskoj Federacii ) is the highest honor and the highest title of honor, which is awarded in Russia. The Russian President awards the medal to persons who have delegated tasks or other exploits in the service of the state excelled by extraordinary bravery in them.

Until now, the award was bestowed about 750 times, mainly to cosmonauts and soldiers who fought in the two Chechen wars. But artists, politicians, athletes and personalities from the business world have been honored with this Order.

History

The award was introduced on 20 March 1992 by Russian President Boris Yeltsin issued a decree to replace the previous title Hero of the Soviet Union and Hero of Socialist Labor. Decree No. 2553 - I includes the criteria for the award of the title and also for the design of the coin.

The appearance of the Order is similar to that of Hero of the Soviet Union. On a white-blue- red band ( 19.5 x 15 mm ) depends on a five-pointed, star undecorated. The star of gold has a diameter of 15 mm and weighs 21.5 grams. On the back, the words are Герой России (Russian for Hero of Russia ) and a serial number. In public, the Order is worn on the left side of Jack above other medals and awards.

Receiver

Most recipients of this title, or cosmonauts either party to the conflict in Chechnya. While cosmonauts automatically get with her spaceflight this award, get those in Chechnya, the title for bravery in combat or for the leadership of the pro-Russian government. Likewise, the award is also awarded posthumously to people who have fallen in the line of duty, or died in an assassination attempt. To date, the award was given to about 750 people, including 340 people at posthumously.
