Highest Alemannic German

Höchstalemannisch is a group of Alemannic dialects spoken in the extreme southwest of the German language area.

Features

The most Alemannic dialects are different from the north adjacent high Alemannic that no diphthongization has been carried out in the hiatus:

In many highly Alemannic dialects a special plural form of the weak feminine nouns is also to be found. In contrast to the previous features, these are not an archaism, but an innovation that may have arisen under the influence of the adjacent Romance dialects:

Another archaism of the possessive genitive is in various highly Alemannic dialects still alive, while the genitive often quite lacking in the high of Alemannic dialects.

Some highly Alemannic dialects have various other archaisms on, for example in Nebensilbenvokalismus, so that in particular the Valais German is often regarded as the most conservative Alemannic dialect.
