Hillevi Engström

Hillevi Maria Engström, born Pettersson ( born April 15, 1963 in Sollentuna, Stockholm County ) is a Swedish politician and, since September 17, 2013 Minister for International Development Cooperation in the Government of Fredrik Reinfeldt.

Curriculum vitae

Engström was born on 15 April 1963 as Hillevi Maria Pettersson. In addition to her sister, the journalist Karin Hübinette, she has two brothers. She studied at the University of Stockholm and Örebro University Law and Social Sciences and Education. In 1983, she also entered successfully the police academy and worked from then until 1996 as a police detective. From 1993, she was also in Polisförbundet, the Swedish Police Union, active. She was elected the first female ombudsperson of Polisförbundet 1996 and retained the post until 2002.

As early as 1998 Engström for Moderata samlingspartiet to the City Council in their community Sollentuna selected. This office kept them held until her appointment as Minister in 2010. 2002 Hillevi Engström was elected to the Swedish Parliament. There she became a member of several commissions. As of 2009, Engstrom was also the spokesperson for the moderates in the area of gender equality. After the election of the Swedish Parliament in 2010 and the replacement of various ministerial posts Hillevi Engström was appointed the new Minister of Labour in government Fredrik Reinfeldt. Following the resignation of the Minister for International Development Cooperation Gunilla Carlsson on September 17, 2013 Engström took over immediately this post. Her successor as Secretary of Labor was Elisabeth Svantesson.
