Hilmar Baunsgaard

Hilmar Tormod Ingolf Baunsgaard ( born February 26, 1920 in Slagelse, † June 20, 1989 in Gentofte ) was a politician of the Danish Social Liberal Party and Prime Minister from 1968 to 1971.

He was elected to the Folketing 1957-1977 and 1961-1964 Minister of Commerce in the Social-Liberal cabinets of Viggo Kampmann (S) and Jens Otto Krag (S). It was not least the merit of the telegenic Baunsgaard that his party was able to double its share of votes in the general election in 1968. In a bourgeois coalition with the right-wing liberal Venstre and the Conservative People's Party, he became Prime Minister in 1968 on February 2. On October 11, 1971, he left office after the coalition had lost its majority again. Krag again took over the post of prime minister.
