Hiran, Somalia
Hiiraan (Arabic هيران Hiran ) is a region ( Gobolka ) in central Somalia. Its capital is Beledweyne.
Geography
Hiiraan is bordered to the north by the Somali Region in Ethiopia and the Somali region of Galguduud, in the south to the regions Shabeellaha Dhexe and Shabeellaha Hoose and in the west to the Bay and Bakool regions.
The river flows from Ethiopia Shabeelle coming through the region.
More cities in addition to Beledweyne are Buulobarde, Baalcad and Jalalaqsi.
Population
Hiiraan has about 517,000 inhabitants. These include the majority of the Somali clan of the Hawiye, besides also Rahanweyn, Darod and the ethnic minority of Makanne are represented.
