Bakool

Bakool (Arabic باكول Bākaul ) is a region ( Gobolka ) in southern Somalia with about 357,000 inhabitants. Its capital is Huddur. The region was created in 1974 when the administrative structure of Somalia under Siad Barre was changed, from a part of the former Upper Jubba region.

Bakool is located inland in the area between the two great rivers of Somalia, the Jubba and the Shabeelle, and is bordered to the north by the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Villages are, inter alia, Tiyeeglow, Wajid and Yeed.

Most important means of livelihood are the cultivation of sorghum in combination with livestock ( Agropastoralismus ) and - especially in the northern part of the region - nomadic animal husbandry.

The main Somali clan in Bakool are the Rahanweyn.

Significant political force whose Rahanweyn Resistance Army, which is allied with the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia. 2009, the region is hotly debated between pro-government forces and the radical Islamist al -Shabaab.
