Karkaar

Karkaar or Karkar is an administrative region of the de facto autonomous Puntland on the coast of the Indian Ocean in northeastern Somalia.

The name is derived from the Karkaar Mountains, a chain of rugged mountains in the north-east of Somalia, which runs from west to east through the region of Bari and forms about the border region in the north of Bari.

The region is divided into three districts around the towns Bandarbeyla, Hafun and Qardho.

In the administrative structure of Somalia, the area of Karkaar still belongs to the region of Bari.
